Video Training & Consultancy
Ask me Anything
I consult to Film & Video Production Companies, Ad Agencies, and organisations in the public and private sector, advising on a range of film and video related subjects.
These include presentation and behind-the-scenes training, production direction and writing services, production planning and logistics as well as video asset management and leverage.
Individuals or Teams
Bespoke courses and training programmes are available for any video/film-related subject and I currently train people in many different locations.
If you can’t make it in person to one of my workshops – or have a geographically diverse team – consider one-to-one training by Skype (or one-to-group with Zoom) which can be very cost-effective. I’ll be happy to work in your time zone too.
Or you can pop over the the SSR website and check out details of my on-line course all about making videos with smartphones and compact cameras. No matter where you are in the world, this new on-line course offers a totally interactive learning experience with SSR’s advanced Learning Platform.
Smartphones and Stuff
Having spent years directing, producing and writing film and video, I now spend much of my time teaching it – to groups and individuals – through public and private courses and at educational establishments.
Many people attend one of my regular public courses to get a feel for what I do and then book me to train people in their organization. Courses range from iPhone workshops for beginners to advanced instruction for stereoscopic 3D and VR filming.
For the last twenty five years I’ve been producing, directing and writing video. Although based in Cheshire I have worked all over the world. Now I spend quite a lot of my time teaching and lecturing on film and TV too.
I’ve worked on everything from network TV to music videos, drama to comedy… from multi-camera productions with massive crews to shooting stuff myself in a tropical jungle! I’ve worked with big stars and ordinary members of the public… CEOs of blue chips, to workers on the factory floor – and over the years I’ve gathered a few scary tales and more than a few insights into what makes good video.
As well as consulting to major clients on all matters TV and video production to production companies, TV advertisers and Ad Agencies, I continue to produce and direct my own video productions. Recent clients have included PZ Cussons, B&Q, Barclays Bank, Amec Foster Wheeler, Bay TV Liverpool, ACCTV and many others. I also teach video techniques and theory to degree-course students and run workshops on filming, directing, producing, writing and editing techniques.

As part of all my gear, I have a matte box and lots of filters. Sometimes I even get to use them. But more often than not it’s a run’n’gun or such a tight schedule that niceties like that are ignored with the caveat ‘we’ll sort it in post’. Of course there are certain...read more
